HISTORY: ALASKA AIRLINES is an American airline based in the Seattle metropolitan area of the state of Washington. The company was founded in 1932 as McGee Airways, offering flights from Anchorage, Alaska. The name Alaska Airlines was adopted on May 2, 1944 having narrowly beaten a competitor who was also applying for the name. In the 1940s Alaska's headquarters were in Anchorage.
